Zithromax is a prescription only medication and should be used only after the doctor’s approval. The doctor’s instructions should be followed at all times as there can be a few complications that can develop otherwise. There are a few precautions that need to be taken while using Zithromax and they have been listed below:
- Inform your doctor if you have or have had liver disease before you start taking medication. You may not be allowed to take or an adjusted dose may be prescribed.
- this Drug falls in the FDA pregnancy category B, which means that it does not usually cause any harm to the unborn baby. However if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during the course of the medication tell your doctor about it before you begin using medicine.
- If you are breast feeding your child, speak to your doctor before you start taking drug as it is not known if Zithromax passes into breast milk.
- If there has been no improvement even after a few days or if the symptoms become worse then inform your doctor about it.
- Inform your doctor if a physical symptom such as diarrhea occurs during or after treatment with Zithromax.
- Immediately visit a doctor if you get an allergic reaction like a rash, itching, difficulty swallowing, or swelling of the face, lips or tongue.
- Never consume more of the medication than what has been prescribed for you as it could have fatal reactions. If you feel that the medication is not proving to be effective speak to your doctor.
- Inform your doctor about all the prescription and non prescription medication that you are taking before you start taking Zithromax. Also inform your doctor if you decide to take any other medication while you are using Zithromax.
- Women may have to use an additional form of birth control while they are using Zithromax as Zithromax decreases the effectiveness of birth control pills.
- While using this medication stay away from the sun, wear protective clothing and use a sunscreen. Don’t use sun lamps or sun tanning beds or booths.
- Do not take antacids while you are using Zithromax medication as they are known to reduce the effectiveness of Zithromax. If you want to take an antacid make sure that it is after an interval of at least two hours after you took Zithromax and four hours before you take your next dose.
- If you are going to have a surgery then tell your doctor if you are using this medicine .
